Dr .Yashwant Singh Parmar

INTRODUCTION:-  Dr. Yashwant Singh Pramar was an Indian politician and leader of the Indian National Congress. He was the first Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh state and is regarded as the founder of the state due to his efforts. The formation of the constituent assembly of India in 1946, he represented Himachal Pradesh in the constituent assembly.

PERSONAL LIFE:-  Parmar was born on 4 August 1906 in  Bhagthan village, in Sirmaur district. His father’s name was Bhandari Shivanand Singh Parmar, a popular leader and successful lawyer. Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was educated at F. C. college, Lahore and Canning college, Lucknow University. Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was not only a political leader, but man of nature and qualities. He was be remembered as a founder of Himachal Pradesh.

POLITICAL CAREER:-  In 1948, Parmar was nominated as a member of the All India Congress Committee. Dr. Yashwant contested first Legislative Assembly election in 1951-1952 and got elected its leader, to be sworn in as 1st Chief Minister for the period from 1952  to 1956 He was Advocate to Supreme Court in 1961.

Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar was a writer and wrote following books:

“Social and Economic background of Himalayan Polyandry.”

“Hmachal Pradesh” – Its proper shape and status.

“Himachal Pradesh” – Case for Statehood.

“Himachal Pradesh” – Area and language and strstgy for development of hill areas.

•The Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, established in 1985 in Solan, is name after Dr. Parmar.

•The Government Medical College and Hospital in Nahan is named after him.

•A statue bearing his likeness was installed on The Ridge, Shimla, on 4 august 1984.

He was the great personality of Himachal Pradesh.He was not only a political leader,but man of versatile nature .He actively participated in national movement and integration of princely states.After achieving statehood task ,he asked people to dedicate themselves to state –building process .He will always be remembered  as founder of Himachal Pradesh.
